PUJYA GURUJI SWAMI TEJOMAYANANDA

Like a sapling that wends its way heavenward, the school has grown, day by day, year by year, writing its success story with the spirit of commitment.

Like other Chinmaya Vidyalayas, Poojya Gurudev's master strokes are very evident in the shaping of this school. It was indeed a passion for him to beautify the canvasses of young minds with the subtle hues of culture and tradition. Education for him did not stop with academics.

The innocence and inquisitiveness of children, the patter of their tiny feet, and the laughter of their open hearts and the blossoming of their tender minds meant a lot to him. He considered teaching a divine calling.

I am very pleased to note that this vidyalaya has lived up to the lofty vision of Poojya Gurudev. Having reached this far, may it fulfils its future responsibilities with sacred zeal.

I invoke the Lord's grace and Poojya Gurudev's blessings on the students, the staff, the trustees and patrons of the school.

‘Every school must try to have its own special favour – SWAD – to be a school with a difference.

This flavor comes from a Principal, Teacher, Parents and Management with difference who in turn make schools and students with a difference.

Ø  Inspired and Inspiring Principal:  A principle-centered Principal, inspired by a lofty vision of education makes a truly inspiring CEO leading the school to great heights.

Ø  Dedicated and efficient Teachers: Besides being well qualified with the latest teaching methodologies they have in-depth knowledge of teaching and children. They effectively transmit values and culture along with knowledge and skills.

Ø  Sensitive and co-operative parents: Raising their children with love, care and discipline, they provide a secure and conducive home environment, bestowing values and culture, and align with the vision of the school, offering active participation in the holistic education of the child.

Ø  Visionary and supportive management: They provide strategic planning for growth and efficient management of resources and support  entire institutions giving its firm foundation in its noble vision.

The Chinmaya Vidyalayas are indeed ‘Schools with a Difference’. Let us all work together to make more and more schools with a difference in the hope of  making a nation with a difference. Thus let us make a difference to the world.

All our Chinmaya Vidyalaya are having a curriculum which is the sum total of a large number of experiences that each of our vidyalaya provides to the child in order to achieve the goal of total development of its personality.

Our curriculum consists of both formal learning experiences provided through teaching of different subjects and non - formal learning experiences provided in the form of a variety of activities carried out outside the classroom .The truth of the matter is that it is these latter types of experience, which help in the overall mental, physical, emotional, moral and aesthetic development of the child. It is important for us to realise that a judicious development of formal and non – formal types of experiences provided to the child should result in COMPLETE EDUCATION.

Enduring Endeavors
Swami Mitrananda

In all endeavors success depends totally on ‘Teamwork’. The very acronym of the world; Teamwork; explains it in detail:

T: Togetherness

The spirit of togetherness in invoked in the Indian Culture through the ‘yagna’. A yagna is a ritual which brings different people together for one cause. The result of the yagna is shared equally by every participant.

E: Empathy

It is an ability of a person to see the other person’s point of view. The team should be built with love, respect and friendliness.

A: Alertness

Alertness is cultivated by keeping the body and mind together. An alert mind recognizes the problem in the beginning or even before it occurs. A dull mind recognizes it only when it is in crisis.

M: Motivation

The team comes first and the individual comes next. The motivated group gets others motivation.

W: Willingness

In teamwork, ‘Willingness’ is to contribute the best, and accept whatever one gets. As the sun shines, the flour blooms, so is there willingness when there is love for the cause or the work undertaken.

O: Objective

We cannot begin a journey without knowing our destination. Similarly, the team cannot function without knowing its objectives.

R: Respect
Everyone must have respect and reverence for one another and towards the Supreme for bestowing certain achievements, through them.

K: Karma yoga

Dedicated action would always have a tough of excellence. A true worker always shares ……………Selflessness is the antidote for selfishness.

My Jubliee Journey
(Ms. Geetha Parthasarathy)
1.Introduction:

I started on this ‘education’ journey at the same time as the Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Srirangam (CVS). Thus I am the oldest student. Yes, while being a teacher at the school, I have also been a student – student of the art of knowing young minds, their parents and in fact, the society at large. I am recounting, in the following paragraphs over these 25 years, which I fondly recall as the “SILVER YEARS”.
2. The Beginning
a.         Like everything else in human being, the journey began humbly on the 10th June 1982.my father always wanted me to become a doctor and constantly encouraged me towards that objective.
b.         But, my father also used to instill in all of us my five siblings and me a sense of awe for the teaching profession (possibly because of the fact that his father-in-law and my grandfather was an eminent mathematician , who taught a galaxy of future teachers , scientist and a president). May be the sense of awe for the latter profession prevailed. I graduated in chemistry followed by Post Graduated degree in English literature and Teaching.
c.         Though my late father was utterly disappointed at me not opting for the medical profession, he large heartedly did not impede my progress as a Teacher. (Largeness of Heart and tolerance for to other’s views lesson I learnt).I initially became a mark of the Teaching stall at the AUROBINDO Matriculation School at Tennur, Trichy. (CVS was still in the womb of Time).
d.         I worked there for nearly 1 year .Even then, I was a member of the member of the Trichy Chinmaya Mission (Again another fine example of tolerance from my parents – although different from their own to germinate and flourish _ Lesson 2 learnt).
e.         Thus was sown the seeds of CVS (as it came to be known as) under the shades of a neem tree that kept a solitary vigil at an open ground on Netaji Road, Srirangam. The address – a five ground open land adjacent to the property of Late Sri Subramania Chettiar. Residents of parts of Srirangam will definitely recall that the property remained unclaimed and unoccupied for a long time. It was Late Sri chettiar, a prominent member of the gentry of the town and a past Municipal Councillor, who encourage the swamiji from the mission to start the school on this ground. The date-10th June 1982.
f.          And, thus was born CVS on that day with a lone teacher and pupil- Miss.Ramya. No Buildings, no class room but just the shades of the neem tree. The only other members of the original staff are the husband –wife duo of non-teaching staff –Mrs and Mr .Pandurangan (who are still on the non-teaching staff).
3.The Growth:
a.         I look at the school today -62 teachers.25 non-teaching staff , 1300 pupils , nearly 18000 sq.ft of built space not to mention the other facilities at the school . I am quite certain that my late father will have no reason to complain about my growth.

b.         For the initial few years, the school offered education only up to V standard .In the 1990s, each year, we added one higher standard so that by 1997, the school started offering up to X standard

c.         It is quite evident that the seeds sown twenty-five years ago not merely let the original tree to grow but also become a part of a large garden of trees , thanks to the propagation of the seeds by the several birds that thronged the garden site.(I refer to the student that went through the portal s of CVS during these 25 years with father .Tendering to sick bodies , as a physician though equally  noble , pales before the possibilities as a teacher , to create healthy minds .As I am able to identify myself with every aspect of the growth of the CVS over these years, I call this as “I-growth” (growth of the individual simultaneous as the institution).

4. The Future

a.         Pujya Gurudev said,”More important than what is behind you and what is

ahead of you is what is IN you. Seek IT . Centred in it, act and live”.

b.         As we cross the milestone of the 25th year of existence, we at CVS – the staff,
the students and their parents dedication ourselves in our guest at “SEEKING THAT WHICH IS IN ALL OF US”. Having seen with my own eyes germination of a single seed, planted 25 years ago, into a large garden of tree, I am quite sure that the next 25 years will be more eventful.

c.         I am also sure all the stakeholders – the parents, their children , the staff , the Chinmaya mission and ultimately society at large will continue to make valuable contribution in making them (the following years) so.

d.         I am also confident, that the school will do everything necessary to ensure that the school brings the best in everyone, the student, the teacher and the parents.
OM   SHANTI OM SHANTI OM SHANTI !!!!

A Hesitant Teacher’s Reminiscences
(Ms. Radha Parthasarathy)

1.            Introduction:

a.         Pujya Gurudev Said: “True knowledge enables a man to realise that he is
the SOUL with a BODY”.

b.         I learnt of the above Truth much later in my life, for, I was trained to be a lawyer. In fact after my graduation in law, I was offered a junior ship under an eminent criminal lawyer of the place. May be my proclivity for quick retort was taken for (to-day, I feel that it was mistakenly so) my ignorance that the human being was a mere body with a soul.

c.        Again, as Pujya Gurudev said, “I did not want to live in sentiments but in true intelligence”.

d.         So, began my journey as a teacher, albeit reluctantly at the beginning.

2.         How it all began
a.         As is now well established, children mostly live the dreams of their parents. If you don’t accept this assertion, please look at the transformation that’s taking place around us. Every students of class X now dreams of doing a B.E or B.Tech. And that too only in Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunication Engineering or in Computer Science. This phenomenon is not merely due to the coming into being of a number of Engineering colleges offering these courses but also due to the desire of every parent to see that his /her child reaches the shores of that land of milk and honey-U.S.A. The enthusiasm is more visible in to-day’s parents that (at least in some cases) in their children. The Result – a girl from Mayiladuthurai in the hinterland, who has not gone anywhere near her own state’s capital-Madras (now Chennai) bets everything she has to reach Minneapolis in distant North America.
b.         Even my parents had  a dream for me , about me ,Like they had for every one of my five siblings .They wanted my brothers to become professional accountants .They did .Similarly , they wanted me to be a lawyer . I became one (or at least acquired the qualification to be one) .That was in 1982.
c.         But, the natural desire to attain the TRUE KNOWLEDGE, which Gurudev suggested, overwhelmed me.
d.         I joined CVS in 1982, more to assist my sister, who, by then was, deeply involved in the evolution of the school, than by any desire at becoming a Teacher .I never looked back. Swamiji said: “Live in the present. Intelligently face life with a Tranquil mind, full of prayer and Iswara Smarana.
e.         My role as a Teacher at CVS helped me achieve all that. Here I am.
3.         My teaching days at CVS so far:
a.         In 1982, when I began to associate with CVS, there was only one teacher (the present Head Mistress), one student (Ms. Ramya) and two sub staff (who are still with us). CVS then offered only LKG, UKG besides standard I. THE first student had the advantage of being so –she was admitted into std.I. She studied for 4 more years and left as CVS offered only up to Std.5. In fact, the mother of the first pupil lighted the ceremonial lamp.  Though I witnessed all these epoch making events, I was not yet formal part of the CVS.
b.         For a few days since, Ms.Ramya was the only pupil of the school.  Then Master Sriram (he is now well placed as a Software Engineer in USA) joined Std 1 to give company to Ms.Ramya.  Then followed Master Krishnan, who joined LKG.  I was thus witness to admission to Std 1 before saw a child admitted to KG classes.
c.         By the end of academic year 1982-83, one more teacher Ms.Mala joined.  Still the student population reluctantly increased to only 15. you may even say that statistically a very impressive student – Teacher Ratio.
d.         During the period between 1982 and 1987, I also was fortunate in having Pujya Gurudev’s visit to CVS twice at its old location.
e.         Since1990 – 91, each successive academic year saw the addiction of one higher standard. Finally since 1996-97, the school started sending directly to appear for the matriculation examination.
f.          In 1992-93, I also witnessed the movement of the school from Netaji Road to its current location. In 2000-2001 another wing was added to house LKG to Std 2. Then the school went for significant investment in infrastructure creation. Today, the school proudly possesses a computer lab with 20 computers and 3 full – time computer teachers. This means that at any time one class of 20 pupils can have access to the lab.
g.         I also witnessed, during these years, a steady stream of teachers coming in and a brief period later trooping out. A guesstimate in that at least 100 Teachers have come and gone in the process.
4.         Conclusion:

As Gurudev said, “Tomorrow, we will be what we are now plus what and how we have faced life’s challenges to-day”. This law of cosmic justice is going to be proven in the case of CVS – we are going to be morally and intellectually stronger in the years to come.

The current crop of children is like a mighty river. I am quite sure that all of us Teacher at CVS – will inculcate the right values in these tender hearts. So that these students who are like waters of river have a regulated existence through the Dam of core human values and become useful to themselves, their immediate families and to society at large.

Chinmaya Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Srirangam

One such Vidyalaya is our school, located at Aruna Nagar 1st Street, Srirangam, one of the most sacred Sthalams dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It was started in the year 1982 with a complement of 2 teachers and about 15 students, mainly to cater to the educational needs of children particularly from the middle class strata. By the benevolent patronage of the managing trustees, and sustained and dedicated work of the teachers, this school has grown into an institution with a vision, having about 1.5K+ students on its rolls and nearly 80 teachers.

Chinmaya Movement

This movement, founded by H. H. Swami Chinmayanandaji, needs no formal introduction-known for the stellar role it played in the crusade against moral degradation in our country, The Movement has, in its wake, established a country-wide net work of Mission Kendras to redeem the lost moral values. As an adjunct to the Movement, and in tune with the saying, " Open a school to close a prison ," this Movement has been instrumental in the opening of Temples of Education- VIDYALAYAS -all over the country. There are now 72 such Vidyalayas through the length and breath of this Holy Land of Ours.
